I was lucky enough to do a 10-night Pacific Island cruise on-board Carnival Legend with my family and thought I’d share a couple of handy hints for when you first board the ship.
We booked a boarding time of around 1pm so that we could get on-board and have some lunch and look around. You may not be able to get into your cabin immediately, depending on your boarding time. Your luggage will be delivered to your cabin, but may not arrive you until closer to the sailing time so it is a wise idea to pack your togs, book, sunscreen and hat in your day bag so that you can relax by the pool before being able to access your cabin.
A couple of other things to organise when you board the ship would be the likes of drinks packages, whether they be alcoholic or soft drink packages and if you are travelling with children then booking them into the Kids Clubs as sometimes the numbers can be capped
Some Cruise Lines do not allow you to pre-book your shore excursions but you should always be able to find out what shore excursions are available before you start your cruise. We went through the list of excursions prior to leaving New Zealand and as soon as we go on-board, we went to the Shore Excursions counter to book ourselves on the ones that we wanted to do – this saves you missing out if the numbers on the shore excursions are limited.
