There are two options to get you out to your Island accommodation from the mainland in Fiji. The Malolo Cat operates a scheduled transfer out to Plantation, Musket Cove and Lomani Island resort. They depart Port Denarau at 7.30am, 10.30am, 2.00pm and 5.30pm. The trip takes approx. 50 minutes and if your flight arrival allows you to meet up with one of these sailings then it is a great option to get out to your resort.
We arrived in Nadi at 5pm off the direct Fiji Airways flight from Christchurch. It was too late to take the Malolo Cat, so we could have stayed overnight in Nadi and caught the Malolo Cat the following morning. The other option (which we chose to do) is to book a private transfer with the Mamanuca Express. The Mamanuca Express offers a 24-hour water taxi service, which gives you a safe, fast and reliable direct link to the Yasawa and Mamanuca resorts on your schedule, allowing you an extra night on your island resort.
Although this was more expensive, for us it was well worth the extra money. Travelling with three children it was important for us to get to our destination as quickly and smoothly as possible. I was impressed that the crew were ready and waiting to take us straight to the boat and made us feel safe and comfortable. We were travelling in the dark and they made a point to check on us several times to make sure everyone was ok.
Many of the Island resorts offer a stay 7 pay 5 deal. By the time, you factor that saving in the private transfer can work out quite economical. Especially if you are travelling in a small group.
